Fitting western saddles to a Thoroughbred?
I just bought an off the track thoroughbred and i want to eventually ride her western. she is green broke english. I cant seem to find a western saddle that doesnt sit on her withers or pinch her shoulders. she is very narrow, any suggestions?
I have had lots of experience trying to fit my paint mare, that’s wide and narrow all at the same time. Try fitting that one!!
Anyway, we found that a built up pad with a wide tree has helped my mare. The pad is extra padded in the front, so the saddle is higher and doesn’t hit her withers.
I would suggest a built pad with a regular treed saddle. Especially if the gaited horse saddles don’t work. I have a hard time finding any western saddles in my area, since most of us riders around here are english. So, we just went with a wide (Semi-qh bars) tree and the pad.
